In the shadow of the West Asia conflict and a turbulent neighbourhood, Thailand has articulated a new foreign policy vision, “Diplomacy 2.0”. Assertive yet pragmatic, it reflects a state adapting to energy insecurity and geopolitical flux. For India, this shift presents both opportunity and warning: relevance in Southeast Asia will demand greater initiative and strategic clarity.
Thailand has a new government. And it has a new foreign policy that India should take notice of. The new policy, called “Diplomacy 2.0”, which calls for assertive positioning and multi-directionality, has taken birth in the context of the 2025 Cambodia-Thailand war and the ongoing West Asia crisis. This is arguably the first foreign policy “vision” in the world that has taken shape as a direct consequence of the West Asia war and the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
