Mauritius PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam Arrives in Mumbai 

What happened?

On  9, September 2025, Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, has arrived in Mumbai for an eight-day official visit to India, his first overseas bilateral trip in his current term. He had earlier visited India in May 2014 for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. During this visit, Dr. Ramgoolam will meet President Droupadi Murmu and hold talks with Prime Minister Modi to deepen the India–Mauritius Strategic Partnership. His itinerary also includes visits to Varanasi, Ayodhya and Tirupati, along with attending a business event in Mumbai.

Why it matters to India

Mauritius is a key maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean and an important partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and ‘Neighbourhood First’ policies. The visit underscores the shared historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations and is expected to further strengthen cooperation in security, trade and development across the region, consolidating Mauritius’ role as a key partner for India in the Global South.
