India has been re-elected to Part II of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) for the 2025–2028 term. The election took place on September 27 during the 42nd ICAO Assembly Session in Montreal. India secured more votes than in 2022, reflecting stronger confidence in its role, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said.
Why it matters to India
The re-election reinforces India’s uninterrupted 81-year presence on the ICAO Council since 1944 and its growing leadership in global civil aviation. India has pledged to advance aviation safety, security, and sustainability, while promoting equitable air connectivity and innovation. The result also highlights India’s expanding aviation sector and its commitment to ICAO’s “No Country Left Behind” initiative.
