What happened
On October 22, 2025, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met the Ambassador of Chad to India, Ildjima Badda, in New Delhi to discuss ways to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries. The talks focused on enhancing collaboration in military training, capacity building, defence equipment supply, and counter-terrorism. India’s Defence Ministry noted that the discussions aim to build on the growing goodwill and defence engagement between India and Chad, which has expanded since 2011.
Why it matters to India
The meeting reflects India’s deepening outreach to African nations as part of its broader Africa defence diplomacy. With Chadian officers now attending counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency courses in Indian defence institutions under ITEC, the partnership highlights India’s role as a trusted security and training partner. Strengthening ties with Chad also supports India’s long-term strategic presence in Central Africa and enhances cooperation.
