11th edition of Indo-Sri Lanka ‘Exercise Mitra Shakti’ to take place in Belagavi

What happened:

On November 9, 2025, the Indian Army announced that the 11th edition of the annual India–Sri Lanka joint military exercise, Mitra Shakti 2025, will be held at the Foreign Training Node in Belagavi from November 10 to 23. The exercise aims to enhance operational synergy between the two armies in conducting joint operations across urban and semi-urban terrain, reflecting the countries’ shared commitment to regional peace and security.

Why it matters to India:

Mitra Shakti is part of India’s broader effort to strengthen defence cooperation and foster mutual trust with its neighbours. Alternately hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the exercise serves as a platform to share best practices in counter-terrorism and peacekeeping operations. The 2024 edition was held in Sri Lanka at the Army Training School, Maduru Oya, where troops from India’s Rajputana Rifles and Sri Lanka’s Gajaba Regiment trained together. The continuity of Mitra Shakti highlights New Delhi’s emphasis on regional stability through sustained military collaboration.
