SCO Member States Condemn Pahalgam Attack In Tianjin Declaration

What happened?

On September 1, 2025, the Pahalgam attack was strongly condemned by member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the Tianjin Declaration, adopted at the Council of Heads of State. The declaration expressed solidarity with the victims and called for the perpetrators, organisers, and sponsors of such attacks to be brought to justice. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also raised the issue at the summit, thanking SCO nations for their support .

Why it matters to India

The Pahalgam attack was one of the deadliest in recent years and directly targeted Indian civilians, underscoring the ongoing cross-border terrorism challenges India faces. SCO’s strong condemnation of  terrorism bolsters India’s longstanding position on the need for collective global action. At the same time, India’s ability to push terrorism as a central agenda item within the SCO reflects its growing influence in shaping regional security discussions, and reinforces the theme of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
