India Issues Travel Advisory as Thailand-Cambodia Conflict Escalates

What happened?

On 25 July 2025, the Indian Embassy in Thailand issued a travel advisory following armed clashes between Thailand and Cambodia along their disputed border. Indian tourists were urged to avoid seven affected Thai provinces. The fighting, which began after a landmine incident, has led to 16 deaths, mass evacuations, and Thai airstrikes. Cambodia has approached the UN Security Council, while ASEAN and the US have called for restraint.

Why it matters to India

The conflict poses significant risks to Indian travellers and regional stability in Southeast Asia—a key area for India’s Act East Policy. Thailand and Cambodia are vital ASEAN partners, and continued instability may disrupt trade routes and affect Indian investments. The travel advisory underscores the need for diplomatic agility in protecting Indian citizens and economic interests abroad, especially as India deepens its regional engagement.
