Interview to India’s World by Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov

It’s been three years since the Russia-Ukraine war began (which Russia calls a “special military operation”). What is your take on the current status of the war and the situation on the battlefield?

The Zelensky regime in Kiev—which is responsible for triggering the conflict by genocidal assault on Russians in Ukraine—is on the back foot on the battlefield. The Russian Army commands the initiative and is on the offensive in Donbass. It is ultimately recognised, even among Kiev’s most ardent cheerleaders, that Ukraine does not and could not prevail. Zelensky himself recently admitted that, without US support, he had a low chance of survival.

It is a good sign that US President Donald Trump has shown a willingness to end the conflict in contrast to the belligerent Biden administration, which was recklessly betting on inflicting a strategic defeat upon Russia by using Ukrainians as cannon fodder. The armed conflict should never have started in the first place but should have been negotiated in a civilised manner, as Russia proposedby way of the Minsk Accords in 2014 and 2015, in January 2022, and the Istanbul process in March 2022.

The West and the Kiev regime persistently dismissed Russia’s concerns and it is their fault that the situation came to the point of no return. Even after three years and endless deaths, the West keeps insisting on fighting so that Kiev can negotiate from the position of strength. It is high time the international community pressed NATO and Ukraine to bring about a peaceful solution, for this will never happen otherwise. Now, Kiev has put itself in an impossible position and has no other option but to stop the hostilities.
