ICG launches two indigenously-built Fast Patrol Vessels ‘Ajit’ and ‘Aparajit’

What happened

On October 24, 2025, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) launched two advanced Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) — ICGS Ajit and ICGS Aparajit — at Goa Shipyard Limited. These are the seventh and eighth vessels in a series of eight indigenously built FPVs, marking another step toward strengthening India’s coastal security and self-reliance in defence shipbuilding. The 52-metre vessels feature Controllable Pitch Propellers for enhanced manoeuvrability and are designed for roles including coastal patrol, anti-smuggling, and search and rescue operations.

Why it matters to India

The launch highlights India’s progress in indigenous defence production and maritime security under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Built entirely by Goa Shipyard Limited, these FPVs enhance the ICG’s operational capability in safeguarding India’s coastal and island territories. The project also supports local industries and the MSME ecosystem, reinforcing India’s commitment to building a self-reliant, modern maritime force.
