India, US hold key military cooperation talks in Hawaii

What happened

On November 4, 2025, the 22nd India–US Military Cooperation Group meeting was held in Hawaii, co-chaired by Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit and Lt Gen Joshua M. Rudd. Senior military leaders discussed strengthening bilateral defence engagement, enhancing interoperability, and ensuring a free and secure Indo-Pacific. The meeting followed the signing of a 10-year Defence Framework Agreement between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in Kuala Lumpur, marking a new phase in strategic cooperation.

Why it matters to India

The meeting and new framework mark a major step in deepening India–US defence partnership, expanding joint capabilities, and reinforcing India’s strategic role in the Indo-Pacific. Closer military coordination strengthens deterrence, supports regional stability, and advances India’s vision of a free, open, and rules-based maritime order alongside its key strategic partner.
