Ajit Doval holds 6th India-Brazil Strategic Dialogue with Lula’s top advisor, focus on defence, energy, rare earth

What happened

On October 4, 2025, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met Celso Luis Nunes Amorim, Special Advisor to the President of Brazil, in New Delhi for the 6th India-Brazil Strategic Dialogue. Senior officials from both sides reviewed progress under the five pillars of cooperation outlined during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brazil in July. The talks covered defence and security, critical minerals, energy, health, and pharmaceuticals, while also discussing coordination in BRICS, IBSA, and the upcoming COP-30 climate conference in Brazil.

Why it matters to India

The dialogue reaffirms India’s growing engagement with Latin America’s largest economy and a key BRICS partner. Strengthening ties with Brazil enhances India’s strategic reach in the Global South, particularly in emerging sectors like clean energy and critical minerals. It also aligns both countries’ agendas ahead of COP-30, where India’s balanced approach to growth and climate responsibility mirrors Brazil’s own developmental goals—cementing their cooperation in shaping equitable global governance.
