India reaffirms commitment to ‘Pact for Future’ at UN dialogue

What happened?

On July 18, India reaffirmed its support for the Pact for the Future and its annexes — the Global Digital Compact (GDC) and the Declaration on Future Generations — during the third informal UN dialogue reviewing the implementation of the pact. Represented by Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, India called for urgent reforms to global governance structures, especially the UN Security Council and international financial institutions.

Why it matters to India

India sees the Pact for the Future as a crucial platform for reshaping global cooperation and tackling long-term challenges. New Delhi highlighted the lack of progress on Security Council reforms, calling for text-based negotiations with clear benchmarks by 2028. India also pushed for alignment with other key forums like the G20, WTO, World Bank, and IMF, especially around sustainable development and financing. India’s stance reinforces its leadership role in driving a fairer, more inclusive international order, and reflects its broader push for UN reform and global digital governance.
